Training with the DRAGONFLY 28 SPORT
THE KEY TO UNFORGETTABLE BAREBOAT SAILING DAYS
Trimarans are not more difficult to sail than conventional boats - but they are different. The difference lies in a few but crucial details.
That's why for new DRAGONFLY enthusiasts, trimaran training is not only a thrilling start, but also the key to unforgettable sailing days. This will make you a ‘DRAGONFLY CERTIFIED SKIPPER’ and will allow you to participate in further DRAGONFLY 28 SPORT– Charters set sail immediately. It takes place in the Gulf of Trieste and lasts 1-3 days, depending on your choice. You can either use your first charter day for this or book it separately.
The prerequisite is that you already have experience with monohull or multihull boats.
WHY TRIMARAN TRAINING?
-
A keel yacht initially compensates for gusts by heeling and you notice that it is time to reef. A light trimaran first converts gusts into acceleration and thus reduces the apparent wind. In order not to miss reefing, we do this proactively according to the reefing table.
-
Keel yachts are often luffed upwind in gusts to reduce pressure beyond the edge of the wind. This reflex would be fatal in a trimaran due to the resulting centrifugal force. Instead we sail the mainsail. We drop space sheets in critical situations, thereby accelerating and reducing the apparent wind.
-
A trimaran is more likely to float at anchor than a keel yacht. We keep a greater distance from the neighboring boats, set a cockpit and anchor, ideally, with two moored anchors.
-
Easy harbor maneuvers are different with us due to the low displacement, straight outer edges, the aft position of the Amas and the lack of the wheel effect.
-
Advantageous DRAGONFLY - special features such as SWING WING, ROTARY SWORD and SWIVEL RUDDER must be handled correctly to avoid damage.
